A small group of parents and educators were meeting monthly to form a type of support group in our community for people whose lives were affected in one way or another by Autism. After meeting for several months, we decided it was time to do something in our community to raise awareness as well as funds for much needed training and educational assistance.
If you have met one person with Autism, you have met ONE person with Autism; the next person may and will most likely be completely different. Imagine being a teacher and having to adapt your way of teaching each time you have an autistic child in your class. Imagine having two autistic children in your class at the same time. Because of these challenges, ongoing training is vital for the children to receive the best education possible. That sounds like a great idea, however training costs money and that is where we plan on playing a role. Our goal is to provide training to teachers, parents, emergency personnel and anyone who is interested in learning more about Autism. There are also times when a child may need special technology or sensory items to help them learn, our goal is to be able to provide these items to Morgan County schools and possibly individuals on a needed basis as approved by the board of directors of Morgan County Autism Foundation.
